Review - Revealing Us (Inside Out #3)

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones takes readers on the ultimate journey of a sensual discovery in Revealing Us, the unforgettable climax of the trilogy.

No in-between…

He has become her life, her heart, her very soul. But he is dark and damaged, and his secrets are many. Sara will risk everything for him. He, in turn, will dare to expose his deepest needs, his most erotic desires. And in the fury of passion he will reveal all that torments him, all that he can never escape. To love him, Sara must embrace the darkest part of him, and become his shelter in a storm that will be his ultimate salvation.

*-*-*-*-*-*
My review:

Stunning conclusion to the Inside Out Trilogy.  If you have not read books 1 and 2 stop reading here and go and pick them up.  You want to read them just to get to this volume and get all your questions answered and see what happens to Sara and Chris and their developing relationship.  This is really hard to review without spoilers but I am going to try.  It really is a great series and you should definitely check it out from the beginning.

In this volume we see Sara and Chris in Paris.  Chris is trying to prepare her to find out his deepest secret and Sara is trying to convince him nothing will change her feelings.  She is forced to face people and places of his past, while also seeing places he loves.  How this affects her and if she is strong enough both in her feelings and in his feelings for her to overcome them is the basis for this story.

Sara is still looking for her friend and Chris is doing everything he can to help her.  As the PI finds new leads that help and dont help locate her.  And Sara finds out about some fallout issues from what happened at the end of Being Me.  We get to watch how Sara and Chris have learned how to care deeply for one another and take care of each other.  There are fights, resolutions, make ups and everything in between throughout this story and you are helpless to do anything but follow along and see where it leads.

Hopefully this does not give away the ending, but you do see a wrapping up of the Sara and Chris storyline.  If they stay together or not, you have to read and find out.  And it does set up the ideas for future stories in this world.  I am looking forward to much more and seeing Sara and Chris again.

Review - The Awakening: Liam (The Awakening #2)

Shifter, Liam Doyle knows Hell. At least he believed he did. The night he feels his mate die, he learns how very wrong he was. Nothing he’d struggled with since Ava’s rejection compares to the emptiness that fills his soul by her death. Lost in his grief, he’s taken by surprise and drugged. When he wakes, everything changes. Nothing is what it seems, and someone is dead set on making him pay.

When Ava Michaels is taken captive, she’s thrust into a dark and terrifying world along with the man she was forced to leave behind. While being near Liam again is heartbreaking, the motive behind her kidnapping is gradually revealed. The more she learns, the more she worries Liam isn’t the man she believed him to be. He has enemies willing to do anything to extract their revenge. Can their love survive a crazy man’s vengeance?

*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

This was the second book in The Awakening series.  However, it is not necessary to read them in order.  They are each their own complete stories.  Also if you hold a grudge against a character, reading Aidan's story first might make it harder for you to like Ava in this one.  I really had my doubts about her at the beginning based on the little I knew from book 1.  But as you read her and Liam's story you get a very different perspective.

Liam is a broken soul, he has mated to a woman who has rejected him.  As a result he cant shift and keeps getting lost in her emotions.  He has a one way bond that returns nothing to him but pain and suffering.  When he feels his mate die he cant help run to her.  While distraught and distracted he is easily overcome and taken captive.

Ava had refused Liam when he tried to explain what he was to her.  Her rejection has all but destroyed him.  When she is drugged and taken captive, she has no idea what is going on.  Only to find herself trapped with the one man she left behind and the one man she can never forget.

From the moment they are captured the story takes you on a roller coaster ride of danger and excitement.   It is near impossible to wait to see what happens next.  Who is this mysterious stranger that has kidnapped them?  Will Ava tell Liam why she really left him?  Will Liam survive her leaving again or will he even let her go?  Can they overcome the odds stacked against them and be together forever the way they are meant too?

Once I started I could not stop reading and finished this book rather quickly.  Both Liam and Ava are fascinating characters with such levels that really come out in this story.  Watching them interact is pure enjoyment.  You cant help but hope they can work it out to be together.  As I said you do not have to read these in order, but once you read one you will have to read the other so be prepared!  I am looking forward to more from this author as she creates a well developed world and intriguing characters.

Review - The Master Undone

*** The Master Undone is a part of the Inside Out trilogy, and is told from his POV. ***

I told him goodbye, and I will not call him. I know if I do, it will be my undoing, and I'll once again be caught up in his spell. I will once again be...lost.

In her private journals, Rebecca laid bare her soul, revealing her obsession for the one man whose erotic demands captivated her imagination--and enslaved her forever. Now, with Rebecca no longer in his life he is lost, questioning everything he thought he knew about himself and about control he holds in such high regard. One women will reach out to heal him and then turn away, leaving him haunted. She is nothing he thought he wanted and somehow everything he needs. He tells himself to forget her but he cannot escape his desire for her. He has to have more...

*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

First of all, please note this novella contains spoilers for Being Me.  I will do my best to not give spoilers for either one.

At the end of Being Me, we do find out what happened to Rebecca and who her "master" was.  And in this well placed and written novella we get to see him from a different perspective than we have before.   By this point we might think we have ideas into who he is and what type of character he is, but in this story we have to question what we think we know.

It was awesome getting this perspective into his character and Im looking forward to finding out more about him and how and why he became the "master" as we know him.

Review - Being Me (Inside Out #2)

The sexy second installment in the Inside Out erotic romance trilogy, following If I Were You—in the seductive tradition of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the lost journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.

In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but not before his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca, but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?

*-*-*-*-*
My review:

The next exciting installment in the Inside Out series has you still following Sara as she tries to find out what happened to Rebecca.  Will she find out or will she lose herself as Rebecca did in this new life.

In Being Me we get to watch Sara and Chris' relationship develop.  We learn a lot more about Chris and see Sara trying to help him deal with his demons.  Their relationship is still new enough that the question is out there if she can handle what he was and help him be happy with who he is.  Mark of course does not make this easy, he is still trying to plant seeds of doubt in Sara regarding Chris.

The mystery of what happened to Rebecca is still present and unknown.  Finding out what happened is harder than it might seem.  Even with the diaries she appears to have completely disappeared without a trace.  At the same time, Sara is finding the same issues with her friend Ella, she still has not heard from her and she can not be located.

While this story does raise more questions - will Sara and Chris make it in a relationship?  Will Ella be found?  It does solve the mystery of what happened to Rebecca and who the "Master" is.  The entire book is a roller coaster ride and the ending is a dramatic event where not only are questions answered but lives and relationships are tested.  I can not wait for Revealing Us to find out the conclusion to Sara and Chris and hope that they find their HEA.

Coastal Magic Author Spotlight - Rebecca Zanetti

What made you decide to go to Coastal Magic in 2014?
I've heard such wonderful things about Coastal Magic, and I haven't been to Florida for a while, so I thought it'd be a good conference to attend.  Also, the lineup of authors is pretty amazing, and I'm excited to meet some of my favorite writers.

What are you looking forward to the most while there?
This is such a fun question!  I'm most looking forward to meeting readers and fans from the area.  I live in the Pacific NW and don't get a lot of chances to connect with readers from areas like Florida, so this will be a wonderful chance to do that.  Fans always have such amazing insights and questions about the characters in my books, so I always have fun with them.

Will you have a new release or be promoting any specific book or series at the convention?
Let's see.  Well, the newest novella in the Dark Protector series (TAMED) will probably be released around that time, and the print version of FORGOTTEN SINS will recently be available, so I'll be promoting those books at that time of year.

Is there anything you would like to share with the attendees before they get there?  Or anything you want to share with those still deciding if they want to go?
I'd say...come to the conference!  Bring questions, bring ideas, and bring yourself for some seriously fun times with a bunch of authors.  We love to meet fans and have fun!

Coastal Magic Author Spotlight - Laurie London

What made you decide to go to Coastal Magic in 2014?
I attended the conference last year and had a blast. As soon as I found out it was happening again, I knew I had to go.

What are you looking forward to the most while there?

I love the intimate atmosphere where I can chat with readers and other authors who are as passionate about paranormal romance as I am.

Will you have a new release or be promoting any specific book or series at the convention?

Yes, I'll have several new books out by then. Book 2 in the Iron Portal series (Rogue's Passion) comes out this summer and I've got a Sweetblood
vampire story coming out around the holidays.

Is there anything you would like to share with the attendees before they get there?  Or anything you want to share with those still deciding if they want to go?

If you love paranormal romance and/or urban fantasy, this is the perfect conference. It's not too big to be intimidating. Plus, Jennifer puts on a fun, well-organized and stress-free event.

Review - Deceiving the Witch Next Door

Storie Bell has a little secret—she’s a witch. But magic hasn’t exactly kept her life from being a complete mess—her love life is non-existent and the town thinks she’s a total nutter. Plus there’s her neighbor Reid Malone who runs hot one minute and cold the next.

Reid Malone can’t wait to escape Bloomington, Texas. Unfortunately, he’s stuck where he is unless he helps his father hide a very illegal secret. The only key to Reid’s freedom lies with the eccentric Storie…and he’ll do whatever it takes to get the information he needs from her.

But Reid’s holding something back. Something big. And if he’s not careful, he’ll find out exactly what happens when you try to deceive a witch…

 *-*-*-*-*
My review:

This was a fun quick read.  Storie and Reid have had chemistry between them from the moment they first came together the night Storie left town after high school.  Now years later she is back to start over and build a successful business in her hometown.

Reid cant wait to get out of town for good.  But he is currently stuck there trying to help his father.  Until he can find what his father needs he is not free to leave.  He is convinced the secret lies in Storie's new shop and does whatever he can to try and find it.

Its fun watching them fight, and try to avoid the attraction that is mutual between them.  We get to watch their characters develop and change over the course of the story which works out very well even though this is shorter than a standard novel.  Even when twists and turns get thrown in, the characters are believable in their actions.

Even the secondary characters are interesting from the best friend that moves back with Storie to help her build the business to Storie's unknown family that she meets for the first time in the book.  You can tell there are quite a few stories out there still if the author decides to share them.

If you are looking for a quick, fun paranormal with some heat and conflict pick this one up.

Review - Rebecca’s Lost Journals, Volume 4: My Master (Inside Out #1.4)

In part four of Rebecca’s Lost Journals, My Master , it’s Rebecca turn to claim control and set the limits in her relationship

*-*-*-*-*-*
My review:

Ok by this time, even if you havent read all the journals.  (Which are short so you have no excuse.  :) )  You know from the titles along that Rebecca has signed the contract with the Master.  We have watched her though her journal entries come to see what this world she is being led into is and have watched her try to figure out if she belongs there.

She loves her Master, but does he love her, and we still dont know who "he" is.  The author has done a great job keeping his identity a secret.  We all have our suspicions by this point but it is still a mystery as big as what happened to Rebecca.

In this installment, we see Rebecca trying to decide if she should stay in this world or go back to being the girl she was before she discovered this new world.  Can she face signing another contract, or will she lose more of herself in his world without ever gaining more from him.  We really get to watch her struggle to find herself and what she wants in this journal and its just as much of a roller coaster ride as the previous journals.

Coastal Magic Author Spotlight - Aria Kane

What made you decide to go to Coastal Magic in 2014? I went last year (as a reader & blogger) and it was a total blast! I love the low reader-to-author ratio and all the time you get to spend with any author you'd like to meet. It just has a really cool, laid-back, everybody's-friends atmosphere.

What are you looking forward to the most while there?
Both seeing all my author-friends I only get to see once or twice a year, and meeting new friends! I love meeting all the bloggers and readers - they're amazing people and they love this genre so much.

Will you have a new release or be promoting any specific book or series at the convention?
The main book I'll be promoting is my current release Once Upon a Darkness, a zombie retelling of Hansel & Gretel. I will also have a new release at the time, but it's contemporary romance and I'm not yet sure if it will be available in print.

Is there anything you would like to share with the attendees before they get there?  Or anything

you want to share with those still deciding if they want to go?
If you are even remotely interested, you should definitely go to this Con! It's an absolute blast!
Aria Kane is a recovering mechanical engineer and romance writer. She lives in sunny Florida with a 60 lb mutt who thinks he's a chihuahua. She is the author of ONCE UPON A DARKNESS and A TITAN FOR CHRISTMAS. You can learn more about her at ariakane.com

He's hell bent on resisting her, or at least making her suffer. But she needs him in a way that touches him to his very soul. Now he has to determine how to set her free, and if he can, how he can ever let her go.

*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

This was my first introduction to this author and if her other stories are even close to this level she will quickly move to my autobuy list.  This is a short novella, perfect for an introduction, and perfect for when you need a quick read.

What most impressed me when reading it was how much we learn about Emma and Kyle and their past history, how they feel about it and how it changed them.  All in the space of only a few chapters.  All while still facing the current threat to them and the pack left behind.

While I would love to read more about Emma and Kyle, I can also really say that I am satisfied with the conclusion and where I can see their story heading in the future.   I really can not stress enough how wonderful it was to find all this is a novella.  Getting a story this complete and detailed is something few can accomplish.  I cant wait to pick up her series and see what happens in a full length novel.

Book Blast and Giveaway - Shadow of Perception

Shadow of Perception
by Kristine Mason

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
What happens when negligent plastic surgeons receive a taste of their own medicine…?
Chicago investigative reporter, Eden Risk, receives an unmarked envelope containing a postcard ordering her to watch the enclosed DVD…or someone else dies. No Police. After Eden watches the DVD, a gruesome, horrifying surgery, she turns to the private criminal investigation agency, CORE, for help. Only she hadn’t expected that help to come with a catch. Her former lover, Hudson Patterson, has been assigned to the case.
Hudson would rather have another CORE agent handle the investigation. Two years ago, he’d screwed things up with Eden…bad. And as more DVDs arrive, Eden and Hudson find themselves not only knee-deep in a twisted investigation, but forced to deal with their past, and the love they’d tried to deny.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

Hero’s POV:

Eden flinched and when she finally met his gaze, Hudson moved closer, fighting the urge to reach for her and smooth away the worry creasing her forehead, to hold her and assure her he’d never let anything happen to her. He fisted his hands instead. The wariness in her eyes, the rigidness of her body told him what he needed to know. She wasn’t ready for what he was willing to offer. Not just sex, but comfort, familiarity, and maybe this time around more of himself.

“I’m not trying to scare you. I want you to be realistic. I want you safe.”

Gripping the edge of the kitchen counter, reminding him he’d unintentionally crowded her, she leaned back. “I appreciate your concern. But I’ll be well protected tonight. All night.”

Unconvinced he said, “The security system is good, I’ve seen to it myself, but having me here—just in case—is an even better security measure.”

“Sorry, but three’s a crowd. I doubt my date will appreciate my babysitter hanging around while we’re...dating.”

She had a frickin’ date?

“Cancel,” he said, hoping he’d kept the resentment from his voice. Of course he shouldn’t have expected her to remain celibate since they’d broken up. He’d had his share of “dates” too. But knowing another man would be here, in her townhouse, in her bed, had his empty stomach churning with jealousy. The way his emotions were hitting him like a barrage of bullets today, he realized he’d never gotten over the loss of what could have been between them.

No other woman before or after Eden had stirred his gut with thoughts of love and all that other stuff he didn’t have the vocabulary to name.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

I didn’t pick up my first romance novel until I was in my late twenties. Immediately hooked, I
read a bazillion books before deciding to write one of my own. After the birth of my first son I needed something to keep my mind from turning to mush, and Sesame Street wasn’t cutting it. While that first book will never see the light of day, something good had come from writing it. I realized my passion, and had found a career that I love.

When I’m not writing contemporary romances and dark, romantic suspense novels (or reading them!) I’m chasing after my four kids and two neurotic dogs.

Review - Rebecca’s Lost Journals, Volume 3: His Submissive (Inside Out #1.3)

In part three of Rebecca’s Lost Journals, His Submissive , Rebecca must decide just how far she will go for the darkly intense man who she is falling in love with. And does she dare believe that he too, will ever love her?

*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

Another captivating entry into the thoughts and actions of Rebecca before she disappeared.  Rebecca has signed the contract, but does she truely want to be a submissive or is she trying to compromise to form a relationship with the man we only know as the Master.

Does Rebecca find her place in this new world or is she losing herself, we still don't know what happened to her and can only keep reading to learn more about her and her relationships to try and figure it out.  I cant wait to read the next in her journals to see if she adjusts and accepts being a submissive with all the rules or if she discovers this life is not for her, no matter what her feelings are for the Master and how this ties together to lead to her disappearance.

VBT - Interview and Giveaway - Tracy Sweeney - Living Backwards

Please describe your novel twitter style 140 characters or less.
Back in high school with a bump on the head, a flask in her pocket and a cute boy on a bike. Don’t change the past? Harder than you think.

What is the one thing you wish you knew before you tried to get published?
Getting Oprah to love your book is hard work.  You might think that it’s not but it totally is.  Also, when you’re done with the review/editing process, do it all over again.

What to you is the best part of being a writer and what is the part you wouldn’t mind giving up?
The best part is when a reader truly connects with something you’ve written.  You create these characters, you make decisions for them and you just hope that someone enjoys the crazy things that go on in your head.  I made you cry?  YES!  I win.

I think the worst part is that you can’t force the words to come. If I happen upon a night when my kids are asleep and I’m not exhausted, it’s the perfect time to write.  The words don’t always cooperate though and that’s frustrating.  I need the world to stop for me when I’m ready to write.

What city would you love to set a story in but the right one hasn’t come along yet?
I’m in love with Southern Italy – Sorrento, Capri, Positano.  Just looking at pictures of lemon trees and coastlines can cheer me up on a rough day.  I’d naturally have to live in the area while I’m writing to do it justice!

Vampires, Shifters, Zombies, Angels - who wins the final ultimate battle?
I read World War Z and know that zombies can be formidable opponents.  But let’s assume we have ammunition and can pick those bad boys off with some shotguns.  Vamps have too many constraints.   They’re toast come daylight.  While angels can fly, shifters can take the shape of anything they want.  I’m putting my money on the shifters.  I, however, will be in hiding.

If you could witness any historical event past, present or future what would it be and why?
I’d love to travel to the Valley of the Kings someday.  So I’d like to witness the building of the pyramids.  Let’s be clear.  I want to witness the building of the pyramids.  I do not plan to assist.  Maybe just get a tan.

If you were going to cowrite a new book, who would you want to write it with?
I’ve talked about writing with a friend of mine whose style I just love.  We’ve written short, goofy things together and had the best time.  This, of course, is only if Tina Fey isn’t available.  Sorry, Sarine.  I know you understand.

What books are currently on your nightstand?
What happens if I don’t have a nightstand?  Ok.  On my theoretical nightstand (which in my head is pink), I have Angelfall by Susan Ee and Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor but I’ll drop everything when Allegiant by Veronica Roth hits the shelves.

What is the best thing you have done in the name of research?
I’d like to say that I rode around on the back of a motorcycle holding onto a really cute boy.  Sadly, I have not.  I do, however, have a pretty extensive flask collection and have tried to master the art of the perfect martini.

When writing what is your favorite part of the story?
I’m such a wimpy reader.  I have such a hard time reading angst and conflict.  It makes me physically ill. But as a writer?  There is nothing better than dishing out drama—taking every crushing, depressed emotion and bleeding onto the page.  But I promise to make it all better in the end.  I’m nice like that.

Anything else you would like to share today?
Well, thank you for having me!  Chat me up on Twitter at @pink_flask.  I talk about cheeseburgers and books that make me swoon.  Or we could talk about ancient Egypt.  I’m easy that way.

As she attempts to navigate her way through the halls of Reynolds High, walking the same path and making the same choices she made years before, she knows that any change she makes can have a catastrophic effect on her future. But when she strikes up an unexpected friendship with motorcycle-riding, cigarette-smoking Luke Chambers, can she pretend to be the same shy girl she once was? At least she has her pink sparkly flask to take the edge off. One little change won't hurt, right?

EXCERPT:

My mind suddenly flashed back to the prom posters littering the walls of Reynolds High. The prom committee chose Mariah Carey’s I Still Believe for a prom song which I felt was pretty cheesy especially since Brenda K. Starr sang it better. But the prom song didn’t really concern me. On prom night, I was not at the “I Still Believe” prom. I was at the dentist. Unfortunately, when you spend your entire high school career in the library or at home with your nose in a book, you don’t meet many members of the opposite sex. So instead of sitting at home sulking because I was missing my prom, I decided to try and distract myself….by getting my teeth cleaned. My prom date gave me a spit bib instead of a corsage.  Thank you, Dr. Grayson, D.D.S. It was a magical evening.
