Review - Magic Strikes

Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Loved it. If you thought the second book was good, its nothing compared to the third. Curran, Kate, everyone is just such a interesting character. The world that has been built for this series just keeps getting more interesting as well. Looking forward to more about Kate's eventual battle with her father and the relationship between her and Curran.

Review - Magic Burns

Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Great book. Moved much much faster than the first and you really get to start to know the characters. The relationships being built are intricate and interesting. I was in a hurry to start the next book when I finished. And I did right away.

Review - Stray

Stray (Shifters, #1) Stray by Rachel Vincent

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A great start to a series. Its cool to read about shifters that are cats instead of wolves for a chance. And how they function in a pride over a pack. I really fell in love with the characters - Faythe, Marc, Jace and all the others. Cant wait to see how the whole story plays out. A well developed world with well developed characters. Hard to put down.

Waiting on Wednesday - Shadow Hills

From GoodReads:

His love captivated her... his secrets might kill her.

Since her sister’s mysterious death, Persephone “Phe” Archer has been plagued by a series of disturbing dreams. Determined to find out what happened to her sister, Phe enrolls at Devenish Prep in Shadow Hills, Massachusetts—the subject of her sister’s final diary entry.

After stepping on campus, Phe immediately realizes that there’s something different about this place—an unexplained epidemic that decimated the town in the 1700s, an ancient and creepy cemetery, and gorgeous boy Zach—and somehow she’s connected to it all.

But the more questions she asks and the deeper she digs, the more entangled Phe becomes in the haunting past of Shadow Hills. Finding what links her to this town…might cost her her life.

Review - Magic Bites

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
It really should be more of a 3 1/2 rating, but you cant do 1/2's here. The first part of the book went a little slow to me. But it was a lot of info to learn, a complete new world on the existing ruins of current Atlanta. You have to learn about the main characters, the differences in magic and how things work. There is a lot to learn before the story really gets going on its own. Once it does though the book really picks up and moves at a great pace and its hard to put down. I really like Kate and the other characters and am looking forward to what happens next.

Review - First Drop of Crimson

First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Great book. I love the Cat and Bones books already so was excited to learn more about Spade. I was also glad to see Denise come back and get her own story. If you already love Cat and Bones you will love Spade's book. If you havent read any of the Cat and Bones novels you wont feel behind in this one. Its a great companion book to the existing series. Cant wait to read Mencheres story next!

Review - Magic to the Bone

Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Really great start to a series. Allie is a interesting character as is the world she lives in. There are many sides and effects to magic that I havent seen before in other "worlds." The world building is very well done and close enough to current times to not be too confusing. The characters are interesting and you want to know what happens to them. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Caity must weave together a tapestry of information in order to make her radical discovery, a mystery protected by an elite coterie of power-brokers who influence world events. Review - The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest (Millennium, #3) The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest by Stieg Larsson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A great conclusion to the series. I dont want to post any spoilers for those who havent read these but if you havent you totally should. Very interesting, very intriguing and suspenseful. The only detail I will say about this one is that I loved the trial scenes. I only wish we were going to be getting books 4-10. :(

SEA BLUE PEOPLE WIN MYSTERY BOOKS CONTEST: WEEK 2

Originally posted at Heidi R. Kling's website (scroll to bottom of post for link)

*with bonus GOSSIP GIRL ranting. Warning: Contains spoiler's from Monday's episode

Hey all!

Week Two has arrived!
Thanks for all your entries last week.

This week we have a couple new things to do in order to consider yourself "entered" into my contest.

ONE: Copy this blog post in your blog, link it back here, voila!
TWO: Change your Twitter icon to SEA --what can I say? I like Blue People! RT'ing the contest also counts if you have an avatar you are SO in love with (like Damon) and cannot possible change. ;) )
THREE: Add SEA to your Goodreads list and/or Vote for SEA in a debut/blue book etc. "list"
FOUR: And this is where things get interesting.

Everyone knows I like teen TV. Love the CW. Love Life Unexpected, Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries.

But I *hear* that Life Unexpected might be getting cancelled because of lack of viewers (gasp!) This is one of the sweetest, funniest, full-of-heart shows on TV and I love it. If it get cancelled I will cry. SO.

OPTION 4 is SIGNING THE PETITION TO THE CW encouraging renewal for LIFE UNEXPECTED.

http://www.petitiononline.com/s3781/petition.html

Please. Thank you.

FIVE: Did you see last night's Gossip Girl where Chuck went totally out of character and basically broke all character development (I'm guessing) for ratings and/or shock value? Not only did they reuse a tired (and pro-prostitution) plot of this movie:

They go on to suggest Chuck was in full support of his uncle's—with the character range of a shark— wicked plan.

LAME LAME AND MORE LAME.

YA author Kody Keplinger (THE DUFF) and I were so appalled by this that we decided to write new endings to save Chuck's reputation and to keep from throwing left-over Easter eggs at the TV.

As writers, we NEED TO STAY CONSISTENT with character development. Especially for a character like Chuck who has developed SO much and it has taken SO long. The fans have been rooting for him to change and when he finally does (and is completely believable and happy) to resort back to awful behavior is a cop-out. As fans, we are not happy.

If you are also unhappy, please send your thoughts here:

http://www.cwtv.com/feedback/comments

If you are happy don't pick option 5

SIX: Make a VLOG! Be creative. Just mention SEA somewhere. Bonus points for a SAVE LIFE UNEXPECTED or RANTING about character consistency. ANd singing. (Bonus points are in my heart. ;D )

OKAY, that's it!
Leave in comments what you chose to do.
Pick three!

Check back later this afternoon for a *new and improved ending* right here. :D

Contest ends at MIDNIGHT FRIDAY PST!

Thanks for playing!

Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) Burning Alive by Shannon K. Butcher

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I wasnt sure going in what I would think. Its similar to but not the type of world I usually choose to read. But the characters are great. A couple chapters in and I was completly hooked and went out to get the second book so I could read it right away. Looking forward to more in the series.
