Coastal Magic Author Spotlight - Angie Fox

What made you decide to go to Coastal Magic in 2014?
My goal in life is to defeat Alyssa Day at laser tag, and now, thanks to Coastal Magic 2014, I have my chance. Bwa-ha-ha-ha (Yes, that's my evil laugh. I use it often.)

What are you looking forward to the most while there?
Three days of talking books with readers and authors. It's a rare thing to meet people who love paranormal books as much as I do and I intend to revel like the book whore I am.

Will you have a new release or be promoting any specific book or series at the convention?
Yes, well My Big Fat Demon Slayer Wedding just came out, so I'm actually
thinking about attending the dress up even as a demon slayer bride. It's either that or a biker witch (also from the book). I'll also be promoting Immortally Ever After, which is the last book in the trilogy about a paranormal MASH unit. But I'll only dress up as a paranormal surgeon heroine if I can be assured there will be hunky demi-god special ops soldier there to sweep me off my feet. For research purposes, of course.

Is there anything you would like to share with the attendees before they get there?  Or anything you want to share with those still deciding if they want to go?
Yes. Books. Authors. Daytona Beach in February. Enough said.

Angie Fox
MY BIG FAT DEMON SLAYER WEDDING - out now!

Review - The Night is Forever

A Ghost Rider in the Sky?

What happened here, on a historic ranch outside Nashville, during the Civil War? And what's happening now?

Olivia Gordon works at the Horse Farm, a facility that assists patients with mental and physical recovery; her specialty is animal therapy. She's always loved her job, always felt safe…until now.

People are dying, starting with the facility's founder, whose body is discovered in a ravine on the property—site of a massacre in 1862. And before every death, Liv sees a horse and rider, wearing a soldier's garb, in the night sky…. Warning? Omen? Or clue?

Liv calls in her cousin Malachi and his Krewe, an FBI unit of paranormal investigators, to discover the truth. New Krewe member Dustin Blake knows they need Liv's involvement in the case, yet he's worried about her safety. Because he and Liv quickly become more than colleagues…and he doesn't want to lose her to the endless night.

*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

This is the latest in the Krewe books and provides just as much mystery and excitement as the previous titles.  In this one we are taken to a small town just outside Nashville, TN.  Close enough to the city to visit but far enough away that your neighbors are far enough you should drive to see them.

Olivia works on a horse farm, that was established to help horses and people that need therapy of one kind of another.  The owner would take in any animal to save it and discovered how much they could help people suffering.  Unfortunately when we come in to the story we discover he has just died from an apparent relapse and overdose.  Olivia not believing this could be true calls her cousin who is a new member of the Krewe and asks for help.  Since the FBI technically can not come into a case without being invited or causing serious issues with the local law enforcement.  They decide to send a new member into the camp as an agent who is on a much needed break from the stress of the job.

Dustin grew up in Nashville but has traveled all over and has seen ghosts all his life.  Joining the Krewe has been an interest to him for a long time and he is happy to get the chance.  Once he arrives at the Horse Farm he wastes no time getting to know the locals, staff and other clients of the Farm.  Not long after he arrives is the reading of the will, when the staff discovers what will happen to this place they love that has done so many so much good.

After that things really start to escalate.  It seems that either the staff is becoming increasingly unlucky or that someone is not happy with what was left to whom.  As Olivia is threatened and another staff member dies unexpectedly, Dustin realizes its time to really work with the local law enforcement and possibly bring in more help.  No one can stand the idea of the Horse Farm having to turn away clients and close its doors forever.

With the help of 3 very important ghosts, Dustin, Olivia, and the rest learn more about the area and the people who work at the Farm then they ever wanted to know.  From secret love affairs to ghostly history everything they find is important and it becomes more neccessary than ever to find out who is behind it all.  There is a romantic element built into the story between Dustin and Olivia.  They are able to find each other and become close though all they endure.  But for this Krewe story the mystery greatly overshadows the romance.  You are kept guessing with the characters up until the end of the story and when the killer is revealed it is a shock to all.

If you are looking for a great mystery with some local history and romance thrown in and mixed together to form a wonderful story, pick this one up as soon as you get the chance.

Review - First Temptation

Counterterrorist agent Taft Walker knows the Mexican cartel smuggling game. But posing as part owner of an adult store to ferret out the newest tunnel into the US is a first. So is Zoe Brooks, his partner, new to undercover and a sex-toy virgin. Taft’s up for the sexy challenge. At least until he sees the real Zoe beneath her tough façade and realizes, for the first time in his life, he’ll have to risk his heart to win.

After the death of a teammate, Border Patrol Agent Zoe Brooks is ready to get off the front lines. She’s willing to tolerate a swaggering partner like Taft for a chance to work investigations with ICE. But she’s not prepared for the way he understands her deepest, sexiest desires. Or the fact that she’ll have to break her own rules to grab hold of the passion she’s always wanted.

Note: Also appears in the anthology Wicked Firsts

*-*-*-*-*-*-*
My review:

This was a quick captivating suspense story that I am glad I decided to read.  From the first scene you are thrust into the story when you meet Zoe during a chase as she is working Border Patrol.  You get to see she is a strong,  Next we follow her to a meeting with Taft to hopefully get her chance at leaving Border Patrol and becoming in ICE agent.  While they have some initial objections to each other there is also instant chemistry.  Zoe is willing to put up with Taft and his attitude to get off the Border and into undercover work.  Taft doesn't believe she can handle it, but is sure he can work around her and get the job done.  Little do they know their undercover assignment will be as a couple running an adult store.

What a great story and thrilling ride all the way to the conclusion.  You have complex interesting characters - a strong alpha male and self reliant heroine.  Both with their own views and opinions and not afraid to speak their minds.  At the same time they have an undeniable chemistry and watching them come to accept and realize what it is makes a great story in and of itself.  If you love romantic suspense this is one not to be missed.

*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

While this is the second book in a series.  It does not need to be read that way.  I read this one before I read the first and it worked out fine.  This is an excellent example of a good romantic suspense.  There is action, suspense, mystery and romance that takes you on a wild ride though the pages.

Both the heroine and hero and complex multi layered characters with things in their past they dont want to admit to or face.  But they are forced to come to terms with their pasts in order to move forward with not only their lives but hopefully with each other.  They both come to the story with complex pasts, and the character development is so well done that you get to see how they resolve past issues and grow from them to be people you wish you knew.  The story is put together so well that it is near impossible to put down until you reach the conclusion.

This is one of the best romantic suspense stories I have read this year.  It keeps you interested and reading with equal parts suspense, mystery and romance.  You watch the characters grow together and you root for them to figure out what is going on so they can be happy.  I had to get the first book as soon as I finished in order to read Gabriel's story and I cant wait for the next in the series of four to be released.  If you love a good story and a good romantic suspense this is a series you can not pass up.

Review - Dangerous Desire

A desperate search…

Schoolteacher Gracie James has never seen more danger than her kindergarten grade classroom, but when she goes searching for her missing sister, she’s thrown into a world of sex, crime...and passion. Following a hot lead, she sneaks onto a stranger’s boat—and gets caught. Their one-sided conversation convinces her of two things. One: the guy is seriously sexy. Two: he knows something about her sister. Oh, yeah. And did she mention he’s sexy? And a sizzling attraction…

Jake Alexander, former cop, is staking out a yacht brimming with criminal activity, for an insurance company, when a woman, dressed to kill and totally irresistible, stumbles into his dangerous undercover op. If he hadn’t tackled her, she’d have tottered straight onto the questionable yacht in those ridiculous high heels. Then she’d be dead. Or worse. As much as he’d like to kick her off his boat, he can’t risk her going off on some hare-brained scheme—but he can’t keep her around to muck up his job. Oh, yeah. And did he mention she’s distracting as hell? Lead to dangerous desire…

Unfortunately, she has a keen mind of her own. And a body any man would die for. Jake’s attempt to keep Gracie safe quickly morphs into a reluctant alliance. And a whole lot more... But Gracie finds herself knee deep in more trouble than she bargained for, with secrets revealed and the criminals coming after her. Unless they find a way to trust each other, they’re finished. Oh, yeah. And did they mention they’re in love?

*-*-*-*-*-*
This story was great.  Once I started it got its hooks into me and I didnt want to put it down.  It has action, suspense, romance and even some humor.

Gracie is looking for her sister.  She hasnt heard from her for a while and has gotten worried, it is not like her sister to completely cut off contact.  She is going to go and find her.  Since she knows her sister was working on a boat that is known for its parties she dresses to fit the part.  This is all a bit out of her comfort zone as a teacher.  Trying to get an idea of the boat she wants to sneak onto she climbs aboard a boat across from it and watches what goes on.  Unknown to her Jake is on the boat she climbs on and he is also watching the party boat.  When he stops her from climbing off his boat and getting in over her head on the party boat is where this story really takes off.

Gracie is determined to find her sister by any means necessary.  And once Jake meets her, he is determined to keep her from the trouble he knows the boat across the way in involved in.  While fighting their instant chemistry, they have to learn to trust each other and work together to find out what happened to her sister, who has been seen on the boat and complete Jake's assignment from the insurance company he works for.

The characters in this story are well developed and you can easily visualize them and what they are doing.  Their actions fit their characters and you really believe Gracie will go so far out of her comfort zone just to find her sister and make sure she is ok. The setting is full of action and danger and as a former cop you know Jake will do everything he can to protect Gracie from the events he has watched go down on the boat.   The secondary cast of characters, really help to add to the story and you know they will make interesting main characters in a story of their own.

The story was full of suspense and romance and made for a really great read.  The climax and discover kept you reading and when it was over you missed the characters already and were ready to start reading more about them in another story.

Review - Bound by Night

The first installment in a sexy new paranormal romance series by Larissa Ione, author of the bestselling Demonica series!

*-*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

It took a little bit to get familiar with the story, setting and world.  And since I was reading on my kindle I can safely estimate that it was about 20%.  But once that point was reached it was a non stop unable to put down until finished story.

This is great start to a new series, and since it is a new series and a new world, although much like our own, it does have a bit of a learning curve to get used to what is going on around the characters.  This would account for the slower start and I do not anticipate it being an issue in future stories.

Nicole Martin is an interesting character.  Who she is and what she has become was highly influence by the events that happened when she was a child.  When the vampires that were kept as servants revolted and killed her family.  Riker was also there that night and while he was not directly involved with the uprising.  What Nicole saw him do has greatly affected her.

When Nicole moves back home to work in the family business headquarters she becomes not only a threat but also a tool to be used by vampires who are trying to live without the threat of being held as servants.  When Nicole and Riker meet face to face one night, they not only have instant distrust and mutual dislike but compelling attraction as well.

When Riker takes Nicole to use her as leverage to get what the vampires want from her company, they have to learn to get along and not kill each other for at least the time they are forced to be in contact.  As Nicole learns more about the vampires and starts to see them from a new perspective, Riker also begins to see Nicole as someone who is not just our to capture and study them but also as someone who can be not only an asset but also an overwhelming temptation who just might be able to help him conquer the demons he has lived with for years.

Watching Riker and Nicole fight and adjust to each other as they come to know more than just their personal viewpoints to what can only be called love even as neither is quite ready to accept it is a fun and entertaining ride.  Along with the truths Nicole learns about not only her childhood but also her only remaining family and company she is supposed to run makes for an exciting backdrop to their relationship.  Only we are familiar with the characters and setting of the story it doesn't stop moving and keeps going at a pace you cant help but keep up with.

There is a lot we learn along the way about the current race of vampires and where they come from.  And a lot we learn about some of the major issues troubling their race, which Nicole and her scientific background can help them overcome, the more we are drawn into the story and this world.

While this book does have a conclusion to the story we are being told there is a hint as to what will come next.  I cant wait to find out where the story goes from here and what else we can learn about how the vampires came to be.  We get a glimpse at the end of the book but its not enough to completely satisfy.  I am sure once you read this one you will be waiting just as impatiently as I am for more stories from this world.

Review - For Love or Vengeance

FBI Special Agent Helene Alexander is a goddess.  An actual frickin’ goddess. And her mission is clear, see that justice is served at all times or her days as a goddess are numbered. Helene’s new FBI partner defines good-looking, but Miguel Sanchez, wants nothing to do with her ends-justify-the-means attitude. He knows through experience the type of guilt her actions can bring and Miguel wants nothing to do with Helene’s careless ways. Even if she’s so damned hot she makes him burn with the need. When the serial killer they’re tracking strikes again, Helene and Miguel are drawn into a case that will challenge their most fundamental beliefs about justice and vengeance. But it’s the passion between them that forces a goddess to choose: eternal life with all her powers...or death—to save the man she loves.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*
My Review:

What a great story.  Helene is an actual goddess living on earth.  She is the goddess of vengeance and  is currently a tough as nails FBI agent who will do anything to get justice for the cases she is assigned.  Actually she has too, because based on a deal she made with Zeus if she does not see that justice is served her time on earth as a goddess will be over.

When Helene moves to New York she is given a new partner - Miguel.  Miguel has also recently transferred to New York and has his own share of past history he is trying to overcome.  Miguel is a more by the book type of agent and doesnt care for Helene's methods.

When they are paired up to track down a serial killer that no one has been able to get a successful lead on sparks begin to fly.  Not only in their working relationship, but personal one as well.  Can they learn to work together and catch the killer?  And whose sense of justice and vengeance is right?  Can Helene fulfill her bargain with Zeus and merit out justice no matter what, are just some of the questions that get answered by the time you are finished.

This story has it all, action, suspense, romance and a great character match-up.  Both characters are strong, with interesting backgrounds and attributes.  We also get to meet many interesting side characters that I hope to see again in their own story.  If you love romantic suspense, like a little mythology thrown in with a vampire or two than this story is for you.  Don't miss out!

Spotlight and Giveaway - The Weekend Proposal

One weekend—no strings, no expectations, and no commitments. On Sunday afternoon it all ends, or does it?

No-nonsense businessman Spencer Cannon has a dilemma. He’s headed to Connecticut for the weekend to attend his cousin’s elaborate wedding. His whole family will be there in addition to his obsessed ex-girlfriend Ava. According to Spencer’s brother, Ava has been telling her friends she’s planning a magical reunion with her favorite ex-boyfriend. Spencer’s not in the mood to deal with her, but he can’t miss the wedding. He needs a plan.

Struggling Brooklyn waitress and aspiring graphic designer Dakota Vercelli has fallen on hard times. College debts, pending eviction, and her sick mother are taking a toll on her. A chance encounter with Mr. Cannon, CEO of Cannon and Carrington Advertising, leads to a proposition that may be just the thing to solve both of their problems. Spencer’s offer—spend four days with him during the wedding festivities and keep his ex off his trail. In return, he’ll compensate her generously for her time. He needs a weekend girlfriend, and Dakota needs the cash.

It was just supposed to be a business deal, but after sharing a room, kissing under the stars, and attending a wedding, their attraction is undeniable. Will the illusion end when the weekend is over or is the proposition just the beginning?

Excerpt

“I have a proposition for you.”
“A proposition?” What could he possibly have to offer her?
“I have to attend my cousin’s wedding this weekend. Actually, I have to leave tomorrow afternoon. I don’t want to go alone for reasons I don’t wish to discuss right now. I need someone to accompany me. I’m offering that to you.”
“And you think I’m ‘to the point’?”
He smiled but didn’t say anything. She couldn’t stand the silence. She wanted to figure out his game. There had to be some sort of catch.
“You want me to go to a wedding with you?”
“It’s in Connecticut. I would require your services until Sunday afternoon. All of your expenses would be paid, including a wardrobe which would be yours to keep after the weekend.”
“You need a date?”
“I would need you to appear as my girlfriend.”
“Is this a joke?”
“I wouldn’t joke about something like this. I’ve thought the entire thing through.”
“A man who looks like you should have no problem finding a real girlfriend to buy clothes for and flaunt in front of his family.” She thought for a moment. “Unless there’s something wrong with you.”
“There’s nothing wrong with me.” He raised his voice a bit. “I had planned on attending alone but circumstances have changed. I’m in a bind and from what I gather, you are too.”
Her instincts screamed to run in the opposite direction. She’d never been the type to fall for a scam. “I’m not interested in—”
“I’ll pay you two hundred and fifty thousand dollars for your time.”
“What?” Apparently a side of crazy came with those good looks.
“One hundred and twenty-five thousand today, if you agree.” He pulled out a check from the inside pocket of the jacket he had draped on the back of the chair. He slipped the mint green paper across the table. “You’ll get the rest on Sunday afternoon.”
“That’s fifty grand a day.” She studied the check. It would take her years to make that kind of money working these shit-end jobs.
“I’m aware.” He nodded as if the money meant nothing. “I’m asking for your time, a commodity I believe should be well compensated.”
Too good to be true.
“Do you make it a habit of paying women to be your girlfriend?”
“Pretend girlfriend,” he reminded her. “You would be the first.”
“Why me?”
“Does it matter?”
“What exactly do you expect me to do for that money?”
“I told you.” He narrowed his eyes. “I need a date for a long weekend. Everyone needs to think we’re a couple.”
“You’re willing to pay me to go away with you for four days. I’m supposed to take your word we’re going to a wedding in Connecticut? How do I know you won’t kidnap me and want to do all sorts of kinky stuff to me? You could be some sex-obsessed lunatic.”
“Kinky stuff?”
“Yeah, you know, like bondage and blindfolds.”
“Do you like that sort of thing?” He tried to conceal his smirk.
