Guest Post - Nina Croft - Break Out

Fun facts about Rico…

My novella, BREAK OUT, is out this month with Entangled Publishing. Break Out is a bit of a hybrid—a space opera, paranormal, romance.

It’s set in a future where man has fled to the stars. There they have discovered the secret of immortality—Meridian. Unfortunately, it’s exorbitantly expensive and only available to a select few, and a new ruling class has evolved—the Collective. Everyone in the universe dreams of getting enough credits together to pay for the Meridian treatment. Everyone that is, except my hero, Ricardo Sanchez.

I know we’re not supposed to have favorites, but I have to admit that Ricardo Sanchez is my favorite hero so far. So I thought I’d share a few fun facts about Rico…

1.Rico’s a vampire.

2.He was born in the Middle Ages in Spain, and he’s one-thousand, five-hundred and ninety-six years old.

3.He was married at the age of seventeen, and was faithful to his wife for twenty years. People who know him now find this hard to believe.

4.Rico is a big Star Wars fan, which is probably one of the main reasons he ended up piloting a space cruiser. He likes to think of himself as a sort of Han Solo with fangs

5.Rico knows that the most dangerous thing to an immortal is boredom – so he makes it a rule to never be bored.

6.Rico decorated his spaceship, El Cazador, in his favorite colors – black and silver, and he always dresses to match – in fact, he’s a bit of a poser.

7.Rico’s best friend is Tannis, in fact she’s his only friend. She’s the captain of El Cazador, and she’s a GM or genetically modified. She’s mainly human but with a little bit of snake DNA added.

8.Rico hates the church and it’s nothing to do with being a vampire. They burned his wife at the stake, and he’s never forgiven them.

9.Rico is gorgeous, and he knows it, and he uses it. He’s found the one thing that keeps the darkness firmly locked inside him is sex. So it’s just as well he’s inordinately fond of sex.

10.Rico’s never been in love before…until now.

Book Description:

Irreverent. Irresponsible. Insatiable. Who says immortals can't have any fun?

The year is 3048, Earth is no longer habitable, and man has fled to the stars where they’ve discovered the secret of immortality—Meridian. Unfortunately, the radioactive mineral is exorbitantly expensive and only available to a select few. A new class comprised of the super rich and immortal soon evolves. The Collective, as they’re called, rule the universe.

Two-thousand-year-old Ricardo Sanchez, vampire and rogue pilot of the space cruiser, El Cazador, can’t resist two things: gorgeous women and impossible jobs. When beautiful Skylar Rossaria approaches him to break a prisoner out of the Collective’s maximum security prison on Trakis One, Rico jumps at the chance. Being hunted by the Collective has never been so dangerous–or so fun!
